Ronald Mathison CA, CBV, CFA

Board Director, Chairman

Ron Mathison has extensive experience in restructuring and financing companies in both the public and private markets gained over a career that has spanned nearly 30 years. He is the founder of Matco and has served as a member of the Board of Directors and as Chairman of Matco Investments since its formation in 1999. Ron also serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Matco Investments and Matco Capital.

Ron is deeply skilled in management and corporate governance. Prior to founding Matco, Ron was a director and principal of Peters & Co., an investment firm specializing in the energy industry. Ron was also one of three principals at Peters & Co. Capital, a private merchant banking entity that is widely associated with numerous restructurings of oil and natural gas exploration and production companies and oilfield service companies.

Ron has co-founded several companies including Calfrac Well Services and Western Energy Services. He remains chair of both companies. Ron has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba and is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Business Valuator and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

In 2012 Ron received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and in 2015 was granted a Fellows of the Chartered Professional Accountants Alberta. That same year he was inducted into the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame. He sits on the Strategic Advisory Board of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary, where he established the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education.

Bill Dickie, CFA

Board Director, Vice Chairman

Bill co-founded Matco Financial in 2006 and was the firm’s Chief Investment Officer until August 2018. Bill has a wide depth of investment experience and has worked with private clients, institutions, trusts and non-profit organizations since 1979. He started his career with McLeod Young Weir Ltd, then went on to work for Royal Trust. Next, he became President and Director of Fiduciary Trust Company of Canada (formerly part of Bissett Investment Management). Bill graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Jason Vincent, PFP, TEP

Board Director, President & COO

Jason co-founded Matco Financial in 2006. He started his career in 1993 at Royal Trust as an investment counsellor providing wealth management advice to a wide range of private clients. In 2000, Jason joined the Fiduciary Trust Company of Canada as Executive Vice President, where he worked with private clients, trusts and non-profit organizations. Jason graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Jason also holds the designations of Personal Financial Planner (PFP) and Trust & Estate Practitioner (TEP).

Trevor Galon, CFA

Board Director, Chief Investment Officer

Trevor Galon joined Matco in 2015 and has been an integral part of the Matco Investment team. With over 10 years of industry experience dealing with both institutional and high net worth private clients, he brings a wide breadth of knowledge from an investment management and wealth planning perspective. As CIO, Trevor is responsible for overseeing Matco’s Investment platform. His roles include chairing the Asset Mix Committee and contributing as a member of the Fixed Income, Canadian Equity, and Global Equity working groups. Trevor is the Portfolio Manager for the Matco Balanced Fund and Matco Fixed Income Fund. Trevor began his career at Greystone Managed Investments where he was a part of their investment team for over 5 years. While at Greystone his duties included portfolio management, research, and client service. He graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in both finance and economics and has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
